How does it work?

At Zalm Golf you choose your own golf professional. We work with various experienced golf professionals throughout the Netherlands, each with their own style and specialty. When booking, you can see which pros are available at your preferred location and date. This way you always find a course that suits you.

Theory & practice

From the driving range to 9 holes on the course

The course starts on the driving range where you learn the basic techniques: grip, posture and swing. This is followed by a theory section on golf rules and etiquette, including an exam.

The highlight of the day: playing 9 holes on the course under guidance of your pro. Here you apply everything you've learned - in the real golf environment.

What you learn

Theory

Basic principles of golf, etiquette and game rules. You take a theory exam to show that you know the rules.

Practice

Driving range exercises (grip, posture, swing), short game techniques and 9 holes of golf lessons on the course with your pro.

After the course

After successfully completing the course, you receive the NGF course permission, which allows you to play independently with another golfer on golf courses throughout the Netherlands and Europe.

NGF registration & membership

After the course you need an NGF registration to play on courses. At Zalm Golf you can register for just EUR66 per year - no mandatory club membership. You get access to all courses, 15% discount at 27 partner courses and liability insurance on the course.

1What exactly is an NGF registration?
With an NGF registration you are officially registered with the Dutch Golf Federation. It is your 'golf ID' that allows you to register a handicap and gain access to virtually all golf courses in the Netherlands and many beyond.
2What exactly is a GVB?
A GVB (Golf Proficiency Certificate) is proof that you have mastered the basic skills and etiquette of golf. With a GVB and NGF registration you can play on virtually all golf courses in the Netherlands and Europe.
3Do I already need to know how to golf to start?
No, the course is specially designed for complete beginners. You don't need any experience at all. Our instructors guide you step by step.
4Will I also get theory instruction?
Yes, the course includes a comprehensive theory section on golf rules, etiquette and course management. You also take a theory exam as part of the course day.
5Where does the course take place?
You choose your own location when booking. We work with 20+ golf courses throughout the Netherlands. So there is always a course near you.
6What if I don't pass my GVB?
If you don't pass, you can arrange a resit with your pro. Most participants pass on the first try.
7Can I also register if I live in Belgium or Germany?
Yes! Many of our participants come from Belgium and Germany. The GVB is internationally recognized and you can register with the NGF regardless of your place of residence.
8How quickly do I receive my NGF pass?
After the course you are registered immediately. Your NGF pass is digitally available via the GOLF.NL app.
9Can I hit the course right after?
Yes, after obtaining your GVB and NGF registration you can immediately book tee times and start golfing.
10Isn't golf a very expensive sport?
Golf has become much more accessible. Each pro sets their own rate, and with an NGF registration of EUR66/year you can play on many courses for a green fee of EUR20-EUR50 per round.
11Do I need to join a golf club?
Not required. At Zalm Golf you can register for EUR66 per year without club obligation. This gives you access to all courses and 15% discount at 27 partner courses.
